A New Year Means Time To Get To Work – What Are Your Plans For 2020?

Motivation is when your dreams put on work clothes.”

Aaron Spelling

It is almost 2020. A milestone year? It can be if you put on your working clothes and follow your dreams.

Even more important is your attitude. Put on your best attitude because without it being successful in achieving your dreams will not be easy.

Why do we make it so difficult to follow through? We have so many tools available to us; it should be easy. We over-complicate. We need to keep it simple.

What is the right combination for each of us? What plan works for me may not work for you. Our goals will probably be different, and each of us will be working with a different attitude and a different skill set.

The first step and the easiest is deciding what you want to do. Take a little time and think about your goal. What do you want to accomplish? Then write it down, so it is clear and concise.

Now that you have set your goal by writing it down, you need to make a plan of action. Your goal is a statement of intent. You have acknowledged your commitment by writing it down.

Now you need to make a plan . How are you going to achieve it? What steps do you need to take to make it happen?

Your goal is something you should focus on every day. Write it down and look at it each day. Use sticky notes and place them in locations where you will see them often.

When do you want or need to complete your goal? It is not enough to write it down. There is more required. Decide on a date of completion. If you do not have an endpoint, it is easy to lose your focus.

I think it is critical to plan out how you are going to attain your goal. That means dividing your goal into steps or sections. Visualize the steps and put them on paper. Set a time limit for completing each step and also a date for the completion of your goal.

Use visual reminders such as a whiteboard, calendar, and planner.

Schedule in some wiggle room for any adjustments you may have to make as you work on completing your goal.

As part of moving forward in life and achieving any goal, it is important to learn new skills. You have set your goal, you have written it down, and you have decided on a deadline. Can you realistically complete the goal with the skill set you have, or will it be necessary to learn a new skill?

If you need to learn a new skill, what is required, and how long will it take? You will need to factor this into your plan and your schedule for completion. I firmly believe it is beneficial to learn new skills. Always read to keep up to date with current events and different viewpoints. You never know when they may help you in your work or personal life.

Be aware of your mindset. Check your attitude as you work through achieving your goal. It can be easy to get discouraged, tired, and lose confidence. As part of the process of completing your goals, be sure to surround yourself with like-minded, positive people. Encourage them and do the same for your self. Tell yourself you are doing a good job and remind your self of the value of your goal. Be optimistic.

Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.

Helen Keller

Now that you have all your ducks in a row and you have a clear goal and an organized, realistic plan, it is time to start. Take the first step. There is no reason to wait because if you hesitate, it becomes easier and easier to put it off. Before you know it, months may have gone by, and you will not have moved forward toward your goal.

Be excited. Take the first step and then the next. You will gain confidence as you progress through your plan, and each step will feel more natural to you. Each step will be easier to make.

Remember that not everything may go as planned. There may be a correction needed, but do let it stop you. Reassess and do not panic. Remember, you put in some wiggle room in your schedule, just in case. You may need to make adjustments to your plan. Do not stop. It may be irritating, and it may be disheartening, but it does not mean you cannot complete your goal. Make any needed adjustments and take the next step.

Stay focused on the completion of your goal. Use your tools, look at your schedule, and keep pushing your self forward. Each day will bring you closer to achieving your goal.

As you go through this process, always focus on the result. You should acknowledge the ups and downs of the process and what you have learned along the way. Every step is a learning process and a confidence builder. You gain confidence because you realize you already had the skill to do A and B, and because you learned new skills, you were able to complete C, D, and E.

Congratulate and reward yourself for a job well done.

Know that going forward, you have a new skill set and are better prepared to conquer your next goal.

Get ready. It’s almost 2020. Believe in yourself!

Take a leap of faith and begin this wondrous new year by believing.”

Time To Plan For 2020 How To Make An Effective Strategy For The New Year

What the new years brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the new year”.

Vern McLellan

It’s December and Christmas is just three weeks away. What? How did that happen, I haven’t made any plans yet for next year.

A new year, a new you, a new plan. Time to decide what you want to accomplish in 2020.

What do you want to achieve? What is important and what comes first?

What is your strategy? How do you decide?

If you are like the majority of people, you have these vague plans circulating in your head. You know, the stuff you have been thinking about for most of the year. There may even be a thing or two you wanted to do this year, but you never quite got around to doing.

You need a plan, a good plan, a realistic plan. You need a plan that is not scattered in your head. Every year we tell ourselves that this year will be different and that this year, you will be organized, and you will follow through on your goals.

Now is the time to make sure that happens. Sit down with a blank piece of paper and a pencil and start writing down random thoughts. Close your eyes and think about all the things you want to happen, not just for your work, but for your life.

It is essential to include both. Quite often, we focus on work because that is how we make our living. Our work provides us with income to survive. But life is more than work, and we also need to plan for the things that make us happy. Write it all down.

You may want to write everything down and then walk away for a while. Let it brew for an hour or two, maybe even overnight, Then come back and start breaking it down. Put your random thoughts into categories. Label them ‘work’ and ‘personal’ and then break each of those down again. Maybe list them from most important to least important.

Don’t make it over complicated. Keep it simple and direct, and also keep it real.

When you have a list of your goals, break them down. How are you going to do them? It is great to have goals, but where we usually fail is by not planning the steps of how to complete them.

Let’s say you want to learn to speak another language, or you want to participate in physical activity such as karate. You will need to do some research and break it down into steps. Where can I take a class, how often should I take a class? How long does each class last; an hour? Can I take a class nearby, and if not, how far away do I have to drive? You need all the pertinent information so you can plan for it and include it in your schedule.

You will need to do this with all of your goals, both professional and personal. Remember to be realistic. There are so many hours in each day.

Buy a calendar and a planner. There are many great planners which will give you options for daily, weekly, and monthly. The choice is up to you. Some people use more than one. Of course, you can also use your computer. Mix it up. There is no reason you can’t use all of these options if that is what works for you. Make it as simple and easy as possible.

Look over your schedule, all your goals, and the time you need to relax and recharge. Do you need to dial it back?

Remember, if you overload yourself, it is likely you will not be successful.

Be sure to talk to your family so they understand what you want to accomplish. When they are aware of your plans and see how much effort you are putting into achieving them, they will want to participate and help you. It is a great learning tool for children. Remember, no one watches you more than your children. They are learning from your example.

This is your plan for the new year. Enjoy the process. It can be a learning experience for you, as well. When you are planning out the year ahead, you are thinking about what is important, what your values are.

It also allows you to reflect on 2019 and what you achieved, what worked, and what did not. If something did not work, it is another opportunity for growth; what can you do to improve and do it better the next time.

Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.
