“It’s not the existence of beliefs that is the problem, but what happens to us when we hold them rigidly, without examining them, when we presume the absolutely centrality of our views and become disdainful of others.”

Finish Each Day And Be Done With It Tomorrow Is A New Day

https://unsplash.com/photos/v-NBXj3Yv5o

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.”

– Ralph Waldo Emerson

Each day we are given a gift, the ability to start fresh. We are presented with a blank page, and we have the opportunity to write our story, change our life, make improvements, and decide what is important.

We are in control.

So what should we do with it?

Here are a few suggestions.

  • Leave yesterday behind

What happened yesterday is over and cannot be redone. If you had a great day, fantastic. Remember that feeling and let it help you start in a positive mood today.

If yesterday was a day that left you feeling frustrated and angry, do not let that overwhelm you. You can, however, use it to motivate you to work harder today. You have a fresh start, a blank page, make it better.

  • Wake up early and get started.

Typically, mornings are when we have the most energy, are the most effective at getting things done, and have a positive attitude.

Take advantage of that energy and attitude and get moving.

The best plan would be working on the item on your to do list that has the most value. Do that first and when you are done you can move on to the next.

If you tend to procrastinate about exercise, make that your first priority. I know when I exercise early in the day, I have more energy and enthusiasm, and that helps me be more efficient.

  • Always have daily goals

It is essential to have a specific plan for each day. It is the most effective way to accomplish your goals.

When you wake up without a plan, it is so easy to go off course. I know I have to have a list to guide my day. I like to write down tasks to complete for each day in the afternoon or evening of the day prior.

That way, I always have a plan to look at first thing in the morning. It will guide my day.

My list is structured with the most important item first. I always include a time slot for the Treadmill. I divide the balance of the list into smaller tasks that require less time or effort to complete.

  • Be flexible

Life can be challenging. It is important to be able to accept change and be able to navigate through what may get thrown at us.

Practice mindfulness. Be calm and accept what you cannot change, once you do that, re-focus on your goals, and re-structure your goals accordingly.

“Change the way you look at things and the things you look at will change.”

~ Wayne Dyer
  • Minimize distractions

The Internet is such a powerful thing. It is a blessing and a curse. We turn to it all the time, and it has become an integral part of our everyday life.

It can help us do our work, and it can also become a hindrance.

Flip the computer on and do some research. I do it every day. I read blogs and articles, and I write my own.

I check my email, Twitter and Facebook and I get sucked in.

It is an excellent source of information, and it can be a huge time waster.

Limit your time on social media. We should all turn it off when you are working so we can be more effective.

  • Make time for yourself

When you make your schedule for the next day, include “me” time.

You have a long list. Sure, I get that, but remember, it is necessary to take care of your self. You will not be effective if you are not well-rested and well-fed.

You should schedule a time for exercise, lunch, a coffee break, a walk outside. Most importantly, schedule time for your family and friends.

  • Value yourself and your abilities

It is so easy to praise someone else, but we seldom acknowledge our own skills and accomplishments.

When we start a new day, we have a blank page, and that includes ourselves. Do not focus on what you may have done incorrectly in the past.

Focus on what you learned from your mistake and how you were able to move ahead, perhaps in a new way with a new idea, and accomplish what you started to do.

Focus on your growth and what you have learned. Be proud that you can take risks, learn from your mistakes, and become better for it.

So….today will over soon, and if you are lucky, you will be left with tomorrow and a new opportunity, a blank page. What are you going to write on it?

“Isn’t it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet?”

~ L.M.Montgomery

As always, thank so much for reading my blog. I look forward to sharing more with you again tomorrow.
