9 Ways How To Improve Your Workload And Be More Effective In Business

“You need to be aware of what others are doing, applaud their efforts, acknowledge their successes, and encourage them in their pursuits. When we all help one another, everybody wins.”

– Jim Stovall

Employees are the most valuable asset of any company. They have great value, and as such, deserve respect and an employer who helps them develop and learn new skills. Beneficial for the employees and the business.

So how do you accomplish this?

In my opinion, communication is the most important. Your interaction with your employees has to be clear and concise all the time. It is imperative that everyone understands the details and their responsibilities. What is the project, when is it to be completed, who are they working with, who is in charge and how they communicate with you and others involved in the project.

Work to develop an environment where your employees trust you. Have an open-door policy letting them understand that you are there to talk and listen to any concerns they may have. Have open two-way conversations that are productive. If they need extra help, do not understand the direction of the project, or what they are responsible for, you need to know. Without a clear understanding they will not be productive, the project may not be on time, or may need to be done over.

Assign tasks according to the abilities of your employees. Explain the project to everyone as a group and also take the time to break down everyone’s part. Make sure they understand and revisit each person’s progress often. Clarify any questions or concerns.

Praise your employees often when appropriate. Let them know they are a valuable part of the team. They will work harder, knowing they are appreciated.

It is crucial for everyone to prioritize the tasks each day. Show them how you organize and plan out your day. Ask and encourage them to do the same and explain the value of doing so. This provides a structure to each day, which will be productive for everyone.

As part of prioritizing the workday, you should also plan and schedule the work assignments. It is more effective if you and your employees are working on, and completing, the most difficult tasks early in the day.

Monitor each employee’s progress to be sure they are not falling behind. When that happens, they can become overwhelmed and unproductive. As part of the open door policy, make it very clear to everyone that they can come to you for help and that you will appreciate them when they do.

Never be harsh to your employees. Do not put them down, or talk to them in a demeaning way, or angry voice. It is none productive. Sometimes there is a reason to be disappointed and upset. Take a breath, step back for a moment, and then proceed. When handled appropriately, a bad situation can be a growth opportunity. All your employees will be appreciative that you handle issues in that way.

Encourage employees to work together, share ideas, and make suggestions to improve the project. Schedule a specific time for everyone to get together with you to talk and evaluate. Be open to their recommendations, even when it isn’t quite what you were envisioning. Encourage them to be creative. The result will be a better environment for the growth of your employees and your business. It is a win-win!

These are some of many ways you can develop and build a productive, cohesive, and confident team. Make your business more productive by developing a well-rounded team.

“Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.”

Quote Of The Day

“Character is a quality that embodies many important traits, such as integrity, courage, perseverance, confidence and wisdom. Unlike your fingerprints that you are born with and can’t change, character is something that you create within yourself and must take responsibility for changing.” #Integrity #Character #Quote

7 Habits To Help You Be Successful In Business

The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today.”

— Franklin D. Roosevelt

Everyone wants to be successful. It is the habits we consciously learn and maintain that will bring us success; whether it is in business or our personal life.

Developing those habits may require some effort on our part; some may be easy and others, not so much. Like everything else, the energy we put into learning new habits will determine our success.

So what do we need to do?

  • Start your day off in a positive, energized mode. There are a few things you can do such, as exercise. Exercise can clear your head, and it allows you to visualize your day. I have found it is a great time to solve problems or develop ideas. It does not matter what form of exercise. It can be yoga, running, or weight lifting; any activity that gets your blood flowing.
  • Have a focus list for the day. Make it the night before and come back to it first thing in the morning. The list should include everything you want to accomplish for the day. It could also include a run down of what projects you will be working on that week. Exercise should be on the list, so if you have already done that, you can check it off. You have already started your day on a positive note. Move on to the next thing on the list.
  • As part of your focus list, you should decide what the top three jobs are for the day and then prioritize them again. Which is the hardest? Do that first, then move on to the next hardest and then to number three— that way, you will have completed the essential items. Then you can spend the rest of the day checking off as many of the other jobs as your time allows.
  • Decide to change your attitude toward email, social media, and phone calls. You can get lost in the unnecessary. Check you email and phone messages at designated times. Perhaps first thing in the morning and once again later in the day. Respond only to what is necessary, then move back to your focus list so you can complete the more important aspects of your job. If necessary you can finish your day completing those tasks.
  • Practice mindfulness. Live in the moment. Yesterday is gone, so do not dwell there. Tomorrow is the future, so although it is nice to dream about the success you want to have, you need to do your best job today. You will be prepared for the future by being successful today.
  • Focus on self-improvement by continuing to learn and develop yourself. Always read, take classes, watch webinars. We are never too old to learn. Learning is fun and will make you more interesting. Being open to change and learning new things makes you more valuable at work.
  • Always develop the people that work for you. Treat them with respect, smile, and have meaningful conversations. Ask if you can help; be a mentor. Create a plan which gives them a road map of what they need to learn to move forward. Always give good, honest feedback.

The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.
